All Sarah, all the time

That’s what my life has become in the last two weeks since her VP nomination has been announced. All Sarah, all the time.

All.

the.

Time.

I’ve even put my ‘day job’ on hold so I can blog and take care of the website and store full-time, and it’s still hard to keep up.

See, I have another blog that I’ve run for a couple of years going back to since Sarah Palin was running for Governor, called Palintology.com.  I started it to blog about my first real hands-on campaign experience while working with Sarah and her team and trying to learn from a woman I admired and always knew would accomplish great, great things.

As one might imagine, things have kinda blown up over there with the recent announcement and there’s been lotsa traffic, lotsa comments (good and bad), tshirt sales (my only income at the moment) and the growing-infamous ‘Trademark Issue’ with Newsweek and their Sept. 15th issue with ‘Palin-tol-ogy’ on their cover.

That’s a whole other issue that I can’t really get into here for obvious legal reasons but let’s just say it’s eating a good chunk of my time. Which in turn pisses me off and then just makes me madder and press on harder.  Mainstream mass media is a thorny issue with me anyway, but now it’s personal and they’re diluting what I’ve worked really hard for the last 17 months. I will not go quietly.

But yeah, Sarah Palin now lives in my house. I can’t get away from her if I try. I’ve got boxes of Sarah Palin tshirts all over my living room, order invoices and legal documents cover my office.  And look, even now, I’m blogging about her while trying to unwind before bed. I tried watching t.v., but she’s there, too.  My phone rings and it’s either a supplier, a media agency looking for Sarah fodder, or even worse, friends that have seen the Newsweek cover congratulating me for something I was never credited for and ultimately does more harm than good. Is it some sort of strange and sadistic irony that the ‘Talking Heads’ come to mind?

And you may find yourself living in a shotgun shack

And you may find yourself blogging for a Republican (wtf?!)

And you may find yourself talking to people from all over the world about a woman who once fed you cookies in her kitchen and is now running for Vice President of the United States of America

And you may find yourself confronting and facing down Newsweek Magazine

And you may ask yourself-well…how the F did I get here?

I’m still trying to figure that out.

Yeah!

We have sunshine for 2 days running! Yay! All the quail have new homes and it’s just me and Dan again. Yay! I got 2 new long-term design gigs today! Yay! All PFD recipients will be getting an additional $1200 energy rebate this year! Yay! Wes will be home this weekend! Yay! It’s a good day. Yay.

But yeah, I sold all the quail except Dan. They were awesome and I’ll definitely have them again in the future, but I just don’t have the space now. And to have more than one or two, you really want them to be outside. Crowing at 3am in the living room is ridiculous. And anything beyond a single bird, you’re going to have a smell. I don’t do smells. But it was a fun experiment and I’ve got a really cool bird friend now. The one I started with. Here’s a short video clip I did of the quail rooster crow. I think you’ll get my drift quite quickly.

The plants are getting some much needed sunshine. Hopefully there will be a growth spurt. I’m worried about my carrots. They were planted late anyway, but with the lack of sun, they’ve hardly grown at all. The beans just aren’t going to happen. The strawberry plant looks nice but it’s a June bearing, so there will be no damn berries. Gah!

The cabbage is pretty, though I see no cabbage ball forming. I’ve already resolved to accepting a barren garden this year but they’re pretty plants so I keep them around. And keep hoping.

Oh! Almost forgot. The broccoli was spectacular. Beautiful and yummy. I do believe that once it was steamed, it was the greenest broccoli I have ever seen. Even topping that $8 plate I got from Sullivan’s a few years back. There are still some side shoots growing that can be harvested soon; I’ll try and remember to get a photo before I eat it. I’m not sure your monitor could handle the green though. Might just blow out your pixels. Heh.

Something else of note – with the warmer weather we got a thunderstorm yesterday. It was pretty darn cool. Skiala called and told me there was heavy hail in her part of town. Sadly, we didn’t get that on the East side. There have been a few more rumbles this afternoon and all the neighborhood dogs are barking. Not sure if that’s connected, but, well. Yeah. Barking dogs suck.

And on that note, I leave with peppers. Wes calls these Talkeetna peppers, but I can’t find any reference to a Talkeetna pepper on the web. If someone stumbles across this and happens to know what kind of pepper this is, I’d appreciate a comment.

Locavorism, survivalism and tinfoilism, random stuff.

Locavorism.

Plot to kill the internet.

A good step and decent, long-overdue gesture – Canada has apologized for forcing about 150,000 aboriginal children to attend state-funded Christian boarding schools aimed at assimilating them.An apology may seem trivial to some, but I think it’s a very important step in healing the painful gap between white and native cultures. Many whites today aren’t even aware of these things ever happening and often think of whatever did happen was “so long ago – just get over it.” Many of those children are alive today and it takes time to heal. And before it can heal, it has to be acknowledged.

Take a moment and imagine how different your life would be if this not only happened to your family, but was forced on your entire culture. Are we still making the same mistakes? Forcing Christianity and democracy down the throats of other countries & cultures at gunpoint?

Every man for himself! Or not…

On to other things…

Dan Quail is definitely male. Well, he has the male characteristics anyway. His pink feathers came in on his chest. He’s about 3 oz now and his feathers are almost completely in. I should post a photo but I don’t have the energy tonight.

Work is pissing me off and I’m making a break from my current arrangement and moving on to another company that will contract work out to me. I’ll have to drive to the valley once a week but if they know what they’re doing and act in a semi-professional way, I’m way ahead already. My only concern is the pay rate. We’ll discuss that on Friday when I drive out to meet them.

GaryPDX is often a hero of mine on the Fark forums. Today’s gem: “I dunno if this means anything or not but I’ve seen some 170+ IQ’s who couldn’t pour piss out of a boot with the handle on the heel and instructions on the toe.” This in reference to a thread & discussion titled, “People with higher IQs are less likely to believe in God.”
