So Dan isn’t a rooster.
We had a nice little surprise this evening from Dan Quail, or I should say, Danquail. Yep, we got an egg!
I was over at my buddy Josh’s house, checking out his new podcasting studio and Wes called with the news. He said she started acting crazy, running in circles and bumping the bars then just stopped. When he looked in, he saw this:
Happy Birthday, Dan!
Dan is one month old today!
It was a lazy, cloudy weekend. We didn’t do much of anything at all, just laid around watching tv and napping. I had lots I wanted to do, but the lack of sunshine is really getting depressing. We’ve fallen in this weather pattern of cloudy and rainy all day and breaking sunshine in the far northwest when the sun finally dips low in the horizon and below the cloudline around 9 or 10 pm. It’s truly irritating.
I’m trying to get in the habit of taking photos and carrying a camera again. It’s been a couple of years and I’m always leaving it behind. I’ve missed some really cool shots, too. I saw a family of Canadian geese on the Muldoon curve, drinking from a puddle on the shoulder of the road. The gosling’s looked to be about 6 to 7 inches tall and were so cute! But no camera. Then there was the Ron Paul supporter’s car I saw at Red Robin. It had one of the cooler back window graphics I’ve seen (I usually hate those). The ‘revolution’ part had the evol reversed to spell love. It was cool. I had to giggle when I saw another sticker in the back passenger window that said, “9/11 was in inside job.” Again, no camera. But anyway, I did take it with me on a walk with Skwishey and Ichi. It’s not easy to shoot when you’ve got a hyper terrier in striking range of a very bad kitty on the other end of the leash. So forgive the soft focus please.
Locavorism, survivalism and tinfoilism, random stuff.
Plot to kill the internet.
A good step and decent, long-overdue gesture – Canada has apologized for forcing about 150,000 aboriginal children to attend state-funded Christian boarding schools aimed at assimilating them.An apology may seem trivial to some, but I think it’s a very important step in healing the painful gap between white and native cultures. Many whites today aren’t even aware of these things ever happening and often think of whatever did happen was “so long ago – just get over it.” Many of those children are alive today and it takes time to heal. And before it can heal, it has to be acknowledged.
Take a moment and imagine how different your life would be if this not only happened to your family, but was forced on your entire culture. Are we still making the same mistakes? Forcing Christianity and democracy down the throats of other countries & cultures at gunpoint?
Every man for himself! Or not…

On to other things…
Dan Quail is definitely male. Well, he has the male characteristics anyway. His pink feathers came in on his chest. He’s about 3 oz now and his feathers are almost completely in. I should post a photo but I don’t have the energy tonight.
Work is pissing me off and I’m making a break from my current arrangement and moving on to another company that will contract work out to me. I’ll have to drive to the valley once a week but if they know what they’re doing and act in a semi-professional way, I’m way ahead already. My only concern is the pay rate. We’ll discuss that on Friday when I drive out to meet them.
GaryPDX is often a hero of mine on the Fark forums. Today’s gem: “I dunno if this means anything or not but I’ve seen some 170+ IQ’s who couldn’t pour piss out of a boot with the handle on the heel and instructions on the toe.” This in reference to a thread & discussion titled, “People with higher IQs are less likely to believe in God.”
