About

Who, me? I’m just your average girl living out my version of ‘the American dream’ in beautiful Alaska along with my very significant other, Wes, a menagerie of critters and 2 semi-adult daughters that take turns moving in and out of the house. And I love long run-on sentences.

Me & Wes

I was born and raised in Oklahoma and lived my first 28 years there. In 1998, my daughters and I jumped on a bus and spent the next 3 days driving to Seattle, where we caught a plane to Anchorage. We came with little more than what we could carry and started a whole new life. It was scary, but by far the best decision I’ve ever made.

I am now a self-employed web designer trying to help beautify the ‘net one website at a time. It’s a simple life and though I’ll never get rich doing what I do, but I love the freedom and independence I get from working at home for myself. It also gave me the time and means to home school my daughters through their high school years.

And who am I kidding? Working from home is very enabling to my always evolving obsessions and hobbies, primarily gardening and raising quail. For the moment, anyway. :)

So now it’s time for another change – it’s time to leave Anchorage. Wes and I have had enough of the city life and now that my girls are grown and have their own lives, we’re working our way slowly off the grid to a simpler life. A life with land, wide open spaces, chickens, goats, gardens and self subsistence. This blog is journal of the journey, and it will probably be a long one, but we’re getting there.
